If I should go before you,
If life on earth were through;
I'll stop just inside Heaven's door,
And there I'll wait for you.
You've but to look 'cross star filled skies,
Past the moon and then beyond;
To know my leaving could never break,
This heart's undying bond.
And if you should go before me,
If your journey on earth were through;
You know I will be close behind,
I'll never be far from you.
Across the span of time and space,
This love will reach this far;
For you'll always carry a bit of my heart,
No matter where you are.
We've no way of knowing who will remain,
Or who will go on before;
But if I should go first, you'll find love there,
I'll be waiting just inside Heaven's door.

To Love Again

Oh what unhappy twist of fate
Has brought you homeless to my gate,
The gate where once another stood
To beg for shelter warmth and food?

For from that day I ceased to be
The master of my destiny,
While she, with purr and velvet paw
Became within my house the law.

She scratched the furniture and shed
And claimed the middle of my bed,
She ruled in arrogance and pride
And broke my heart the day she died.

So if you really think, oh cat
I'd willingly relive all that,
Because you come forlorn and thin
Well don't just stand there - come on in!

Why Own A Cat?

There's a danger you know.
You can't own just one, for the craving will grow.
There's no doubt they're addictive, wherein lies the danger
While living with lots, you'll grow poorer and stranger
One cat is not trouble, and two are so funny,
The third one is easy, the fourth one's a honey
The fifth is delightful, the sixth ones's a breeze.

You find you can live with a houseful, with ease.
So how 'bout another? Would you really dare?
They're really quite easy, but Oh Lord, the hair!
With cats on the sofa and cats on the bed,
And crates in the kitchen, its no bother, you said.
They're really no trouble, their manners are great.
What's just one more cat and one more little crate?
The sofa is hairy, the windows are crusty.
The floor is all footprints, the furniture's dusty.

The housekeeping suffers, but what do you care?
Who minds a few noseprints and a little more hair?
So let's keep a kitten, you can always find room.
And a little more time for the dust cloth and broom.
There's hardly a limit to the cats you can add
the thought of a cutback, sure makes you feel sad.
Each one is special, so useful, so funny,
The food bill grows larger, you owe the vet money.
Your folks never visit, few friends come to stay,
Except other cat folks, who live the same way.

Your lawn has now died and your shrubs are dead, too.
Your weekends are busy, you're off with your crew.
There's cat food and vitamins, grooming and shots
And entries and travel and motels, which cost lots.
Is it worth it you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?
Then that favorite comes up and climbs in your lap.
His look says you're special and you know that you will
Keep all of the kittens in spite of the bill.
Some just for showing and some just to breed
And some just for loving, they all fill a need.

Late evening is awful, you scream and you shout
At the cats on the sofa, who refuse to get up.
The cats and the cat shows, the travel, the thrills
The work and the worry, the pressure, the bills.
The Whole thing seems worth it, the cats are your life.
They're charming and funny and offset the strife.
Your lifestyle has changed, things just won't be the same.
Yes, those cats are addictive and so's the cat game!

All I Need To Know About Life
I Learned From My Cat

Life is hard, then you nap.
One day ignore people, the next day annoy them.
When in doubt cop an attitude.
Curiosity never killed anything except maybe a few hours.

Climb your way to the top, that's why the drapes are there.
Never sleep alone when you can sleep on someone's face.
If you're not receiving enough attention,
try knocking over several expensive lamps.

Make your mark in the world or at least spray each corner,
When you go out into the world, remember:
Being placed on a pedestal is a right, not a privilege.

When I was just a kitten

When I was just a kitten,
My mother said to me.
"Someday, you'll have a human pet,
They're cuddly and they're free".
She said "They're awful clumsy,
They stumble, trip, and fall.
They cannot even see a Cat,
 Sleeping in a hall".

"They act as if they own the place,
They're bossy every day".
"You'll learn you must ignore them

It's just the human way".

So, I took my Mom's advice,
I got a human pet.

I have named her Anne,
And she's cuddly as they get.

Owning Anne's been some fun,
And usually we are friends.
But she can be a handful,
I'm glad she wasn't twins.

Humans really aren't too bright,
Their brains are small, I guess.
While trying hard to train her,
I've not had much success.

She doesn't seem to understand,
How things are 'posed to be.

She insists on being headstrong,
Not mellowed out, like me.

She hasn't learned to lick herself,
To keep her body clean.

And when it comes to purring,
She isn't very keen.

She plays on her computer,
Just wasting time away.
When playing with a ball of string,
Could really make her day.

She's seems content to sit there,
Banging on those keys.

While I inspect her ankles,
Checking them for fleas.

When my neighbors visit me,
We sneak out to the bushes.
We laugh about our human pets,
While sitting on our tushes
Anne's getting up in years,
And becoming rather slow.
There are a lot of cats out there,
Who'd say she has to go.
But I'm inclined to keep her,
I've considered this a lot.
Why train another human pet,
When I love the one I've GOT.

Delilah

Words and music by Queen

Delilah Delilah
Oh my oh my oh my you're irresistible
You make me smile when I'm just about to cry
You bring me hope you make me laugh - and I like it
You get away with murder so innocent
But when you throw a moody you're all claws and you bite
That's all right

Delilah Delilah
Oh my oh my oh my you're unpredictable
You make me so very happy
When you cuddle up and go to sleep beside me
And then you make me slightly mad
When you pee all over my Chippendale suite

Delilah Delilah
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

You take over my house and home
You even try to answer my telephone
Delilah you're the apple of my eye

Meeow meeow meeow
Delilah I love you Delilah
Oh you make me so very happy
You give me kisses and I go out of my mind ooh
Meeow meeow meeow
You're irresistible - I love you Delilah
Delilah I love you

Hah hah
You make me very happy
Oh yeah - I love your kisses
I love your kisses
I love your kisses
I love your kisses
I love your your your kisses
I love your kisses

Leven als een kat

Ik zou zo graag als een kat willen leven
op een dak willen slapen in de warme zon
vragen om eten door kopjes te geven
ik wou dat ik zo leven kon
ik zou zo graag als een kat willen leven
lekker in katzwijm zonder plan zonder doel

I wonder what he is thinking
Behind those china blue eyes.
Is he contemplating life?
Is that why he looks so wise?
Does he think about tomorrow?
Does he think about what's been?
Does he wonder at the habbits

of prosaic mice and men?

What secrets has he hidden
within those china blue eyes?
There must be quite a number
Safely stored in orbs that size!
Does he reflect on high ideals?
Does he ponder deeper thoughts?
Does he solve complex mysteries
that have puzzled human sleuths?
I wonder what he's thinking:
How much does he realize?

Does he know that I love him?

Him and those china blue eyes.

The Cat

I'm only a cat,
and I stay in my place...
Up there on your chair,
on your bed or your face!

I'm only a cat,
and I don't finick much...
I'm happy with cream
and anchovies and such!

I'm only a cat,
and we'll get along fine...
As long as you know
I'm not yours... you're all mine!

When I Am An Old Cat

When I am an old cat I shall wear
a diamond collar and leave my footprints
on white couches; I shall drink my cream with
a touch of brandy and spit out my vitamins;
I shall sit on the laps of dog people
just to irritate them;  I shall nap on top of the
neighbor's petunias and perch on top of the
birdbaths and grow charmingly chubby.

But for now I must tolerate the dog
and use my litter box and not sharpen
my claws on the sofa, so no one can doubt
the truth that cats are superior to dogs.

But every once in a while I wonder
if I should be naughty now and then
and nip a few toes, so my humans
won't be too shocked when suddenly
I become an old cat and

start to wear a diamond collar.

CAT KISSES:

Sandpaper kisses
On a cheek or a chin
That is the way
for a day to begin!

Sandpaper kisses
A cuddle and a purr.
I have an alarm clock
That's covered in fur!

Author Unknown

Gentle eyes
that see so much,
paws that have
the quiet touch.

Purrs to signal
"all is well"
and show more love
than words can tell.

Graceful movements
touched with pride,
a calming presence
by our side.

A friendship
that will last and grow,
small wonder
why we love them so.

I know only

too well

that each life will end

eventually

you were fairly old

- that is for a cat -

and although

the shadow of ill-health

had been hovering over you

for quite a long time

I see you

sometimes

in places where you used to be

and I still feel

the empty place

on my chest which

with my arm gently curved round you

fitted your body perfectly

and you

lying there soothing me

won't soothe me any longer

endlessly

smiling

I know very well

that each life must come to an end

my little cat

but why should it have been yours
