Ticked tabby T^a is dominant over the mackerel and blotched/classic patterns but only partially so: in the heterozygous ticked tabby, tabby markings may occur. Ticked tabby appears to also mask the spotted (Sp) tabby pattern. Homozygous ticked tabby (T^a T^a) shows little or no other tabby patterns e.g. barring and stripes. Mackerel and ticked tabbies are less pigmented than classic/blotched tabbies - hence the richness and clarity of a classic tabby pattern cat.
