The drawbacks to having and loving animals is the inevitability of their death.
Almost always we will survive the animal and inexorably the day will come when we have to say goodbye.
Often we will have to make the horrible decision to end the animal’s suffering. But every animal, every cat, lives on in our hearts and minds as a cherished memory.

a kitten, God said.
For you to love while she lives,
and mourn when she's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call her back,
take care of her for me?

I cannot promise she will stay,
